Little Stars shone at our Winter Concert

What a night! Our 2025 Winter Concert — proudly titled 'Little Stars Shine' — was everything we hoped for and more. The hall was packed to standing room only, the stage curtains held together (mostly), the sound system behaved itself, and every single child who stepped into the spotlight walked off it a little taller than they were before.

From the very first note, it was clear that this was going to be a special evening. The Baby Room opened the show with their twinkling stars routine, tiny bodies in tinsel-trimmed onesies waving glow-sticks — with a little help from mom, dad or granny on stage. There is no camera-ready move to describe the collective 'awww' that rolled through the audience.

Our Toddlers were next, and delivered a shaky-but-utterly-adorable dance routine to a jazzy children's classic. There was one confident lead in a green tutu who knew every move, three lookers-in-the-audience-for-mom-and-dad, one child who lay down halfway through, and one unplanned solo bow at the end. Everyone loved every second.

Nursery raised the energy several notches. Class 3A performed a colourful counting song complete with props, Class 3B belted out 'You Are My Sunshine' in three-part not-quite-harmony, and the combined Nursery finale featured a well-drilled little dance that had been rehearsed for weeks in the classroom mat time.

Then it was Grade R's turn — our biggest Magic Moments stars — and honestly, they set the room alight. Every child had a speaking or singing line, the choreography was more ambitious than we thought possible for five-year-olds, and the closing 'Shine Bright' song, sung by the whole class holding tiny torches under dimmed hall lights, brought a tear to more than one parent's eye.

A special, enormous thank you to the teachers who spent literal weeks quietly rehearsing lyrics, gluing costumes, cutting shapes out of cardboard, calming pre-concert nerves and remembering which child's granny needed the aisle seat. Our support staff transformed the hall from ordinary school space to twinkling stage in one afternoon, and the office team fielded a hundred last-minute WhatsApps with patience and humour.

And to every parent, granny, grandpa, aunty, uncle, godparent, neighbour and friend who filled the hall to cheer our little ones on — thank you for making our stars feel like proper superstars. The cheering, the whistling, the enthusiastic standing ovations after every class item, the flowers handed up to teachers at the end — it all matters more than you may realise.

Beyond the fun, concerts like these do serious developmental work. Standing in front of an audience builds a very particular kind of quiet confidence. Remembering a sequence of steps or lyrics stretches memory and concentration. Belonging to a whole-class piece where every child matters equally builds team spirit. And the sheer joy of hearing your name in the applause is, well, unbeatable.
